Art Journaling Retreat with Nancy Lennie People have used journaling for years as a form of self-help, to
delve into the subconscious mind using logic and reason of the left brain.
Writing opens up avenues within us that are often forgotten or buried
under the practicality of everyday living. Likewise, visual artists often
use the canvas as a medium of expression and self-discovery, a cathartic
way of unleashing emotions in a pure and unaltered way that is almost
exclusively right-brained driven. Long-time artist educator Nancy Lennie
has developed an art technique that merges the two forms of expression
in a process called art journaling. Instead of appealing to one side of
the brain while leaving the other unstimulated - as writing or visual
arts do - art journaling is a way of using the entire brain by beginning
with visual images and moving to concrete words. Nancy has designed workshops
which walk students through the steps necessary for opening up to the
holistic experience of journaling with art. This is not something designed
exclusively for visual artists and writers looking to expand their creative
sides. It is a way of seeing the world that EVERYONE - from high-powered
business executives, to ordinary people eager to do some soul searching
- can relate to. Contact: Nancy lennie at

Art Journaling Retreat: the Parables/and Psalms Basically, an art journal is a collection of simple sketches or
drawings with personal reflections written somewhere in the space of the
art. Pieces have the simplicity of form in both drawing and prose that
allows the creator to share the journal as art but they also contain a
deeper meaning that was drawn out and synthesized through journaling.
The process helps students connect their creative selves to their spiritual
selves by starting with sketches of abstract patterns and gradually delving
into the deeper meanings of their responses to these sketches and turning
them into a journal they can share with others. Everyone is invited to
join in this unique process. Instructor: Nancy Lennie. Contact:
